The Functioning of Jalalabad Gas’ & D System
under Petrobangla management was started in the year 1977 with the aim at
providing gas supply to different kinds of customers of greater Sylhet
district- the northeast part of Bangladesh. Later in the year
1978 the Late President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman formally inaugurated the
supply of the Gas at the premises of the Mazar of Hazrat Shahjalal(R)- the
great shrine of the sub-continent. The Gas supply net-work of he company
expanded with the implementation of Sylhet Tea Estate Gas supply Project(1

Supply Project
K-C Project
Chhatak Town
Gas Supply Project and Rural Gas Supply Project etc. The Company was
formally launched under the Companies Act on December 1,1986 with an
authorized capital of Tk.150 crore (1500 million taka).( 1 US$

The main objective of the company is to assist socio-economic
development through supplying gas in the Sylhet Division. The construction
of pipelines, regulating & metering stations and the related
maintenance of the facilities are done to ensure uninterrupted transmission
& distribution of gas in the franchise area of the company. The company
has been playing an important role in the economy by reducing dependence on
imported energy, saving forest and maintenance of ecological balance by
reducing deforestation.
