History of BAPEX
In 1989, Government of Bangladesh decided to reorganize Bangladesh Oil,
Gas and Mineral Corporation (BOGMC) by the recommendation of World Bank to
expedite, strengthen, rearrange and streamline the oil & gas sector.
According to the recommendation of World Bank Petrobangla abolished The
Directorate of Exploration and formed a new company as Bangladesh Petroleum
Exploration Co. Ltd. (BAPEX) which started its function with effect from
0l.07.1989.
From the very beginning of BAPEX, the financial matter regarding revenue
& capital expenditure and the expenditure for Exploration and Drilling
as well as infrastructure development had fallen in to an uncertainty. An
amount of 2% of Gas revenue from Gas marketing companies was arranged in
1994 in order to meet the revenue expenditure of BAPEX and this financial
process still continues. Later on in order to meet the expenditure for
exploration and drilling activities and to make it a continuous process
Government decided to run and function BAPEX as a production company also.
As such Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration & Production Co. Ltd, with the
same nickname BAPEX had flourished and started its function with effect
from 29.02.2000 to expedite its exploration, drilling and production
activities.
Scope of BAPEX
· To carry out geological & geophysical survey.
· Drilling for the purpose of exploration
· Development and production of hydrocarbon resources
· To carry out functions of production, processing, transmission.
distribution, marketing and any other commercial activities relating to
hydrocarbon production including value added products and marketing thereof
solely or under Joint Venture Agreement or any other Agreements within the
country and abroad.
