Company Profile
Eastern Refinery Limited, a subsidiary of
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation was incorporated as a Public Limited Company
in 1963 with 35% EPIDC's( East Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation)
shares, 30% shares held by Burmah Oil Company (BOC) and the rest 35% by
private entrepreneurs. From November,1985, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (
BPC ) became the 100% share holder of the company.
ERL owns the only Petroleum Refining Complex
of Bangladesh, installed on a picturesque expanse of 190 acres on the bank of
river Karnaphuli. ERL refinery went on stream with crude processing capacity
of 1.5 million ton per year from May 8,1968. ERL also owns and operates a
Dolphin Oil Jetty (mainly for imported crude oil reception), 4 Kilometers of
crude oil reception line and 10 Kilometers of product export pipelines.
ERL, now has 5 processing units namely Crude
Distillation Unit, Catalytic Reforming Unit, Asphaltic Bitumen Unit, Long
Residue Visbreaker Unit & Mild Hydrocracking Unit. It produces 15 petroleum
products including 4 non fuel products, of which notables are
MS-Regular(Petrol) , MS-Premium (Octane) , Kerosene, Diesel, JBO, Bitumen
etc. ERL plays a vital role in supplying around 40% of the country's current
petroleum products' demand and thus maintains stability in the POL Products'
market of the country. ERL sometimes becomes the only fall back system
available, to avoid products crisis in the face of disruption of products'
import.
A Board of Directors appointed by the
Government, of which Chairman, BPC is the Chairman and General Manager ERL,
is one of the directors, manages the company. The General Manager is the
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ERL.
ERL as a profitable company in the Public
Sector, contributes substantially to the national exchequer in the form of
dividend, taxes, VAT etc.
With its harmonious working atmosphere, good
productivity record and strong environmental commitment, ERL enjoys a good
standing with the Government as well as the general public.
PLANT & FACILITIES
ERL went onstream in 1968 with three
processing units (Crude Distillation Unit, Catalytic Reforming Unit and
Hydrodesulfurization Unit). Over the years, ERL has added several
Processing/Treatment Units, Utilities Generating Units and tankages with its
original configurations. ERL now, has the following main physical
facilities.
